The women of the Atanansi Women's Group meet weekly - rain or shine - to support each other. Together they nurture the strength to care for their families through the many challenges of daily life.
Micro-lending sparked by modest initial funding and fueled by the Women's Group members' own weekly donations provides participants with the chance to start a small business or address an unexpected crisis.
Skills training has enabled these highly motivated women to become expert tailors; proficient makers of soap, shampoo, and beauty creams; successful gardeners; professional hair dressers; and, crafters of attractive bead purses and bags.
With these skills women have accessed new sources of income to support their families and community. As one woman reported, her participation is what enabled her to build a two-room brick home for herself and her child!
These industrious women have embraced learning new skills and applying them to generate income to support their families
Women proudly welcome visitors to their homes - a rented room along the commercial corridor a mile or two away; a single, two or three -room brick structure with a metal roof and well polished dirt floor; or possibly an adobe shelter with a thatched roof.
Welcoming visitors into your home is such a privilege that family from afar may be invited to join.
Every guest is offered the finest gifts available, possibly a few ears of maize from the garden, a stalk of bananas, a bag of g-nuts, a chicken or even a goat!
