Help Light the Way!
The school is always in need of funds to cover ordinary expenses - food, salaries, supplies, maintenance...Please consider a gift in any amount!
Atanansi shows that a strong education has the power to help children from impoverished families access a brighter future and break out of the cycle of poverty. 100% of 2025 graduates passed the Ugandan Primary Levels Exam and can advance to high school.
This year we launch our most ambitious capital campaign! It's time to replace the still-in-use two oldest classroom buildings on campus - the metal shack and timber shed. The new Main Building will house classrooms, additional learning areas and working space for teachers and administrators. School capacity will grow to 800 students!
Included in the construction costs below is $50,000 to purchase 100,000 bricks. Villagers are ready to work with us to produce the bricks locally.
With $10,000 we can provide villagers with a small stipend for their labor; the tools they need to dig the abundantly available clay, form bricks, and build into a kiln; plastic sheets for rain cover; firewood to bake; and, finally, transportation to the school. This project provides a way for the villagers to play a crucial role in the future of their own community and saves $40,000!
We are planning a central facility - a hub for core resources and the last needed classrooms:
classrooms for grades 5-7 (replacing the metal shack and timber sheds used now)
library
dedicated areas for computer lab, science, arts/music
working space for teachers and administrators
Construction Cost $175,000 and Furnishings $10,000
Construction costs include: 100,000 bricks, truckloads of lake and plaster sand, truckloads of hardcore stones and coarse aggregate stones, truckloads of cement, reinforced steel bars and nets, wooden poles and boards, iron sheets, roofing timber, metal window frames and doors, glass panes, electric conduits, paint...and, importantly, technical engineering oversight and skilled labor!
The students and teachers have made the best of their circumstances. The metal shed being used by the Primary 7 class is the same shed pictured in the 2016 photo of a "teachers lounge!"
Initally, the faculty prepared lessons and graded papers on benches beside the metal shed. Today, they use one of the two rooms of the shed. Providing space for the faculty to prepare, meet, discuss, and work is a high priority. [In the far right corner there is a glimpse of the classroom building replaced by the new building]
